Psalm 51 verse 10 says "Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me". In this verse (or rather, chapter), David was asking God for forgiveness and mercy. In the first part of this verse, he begs God to remold his sinful heart into something that pleases God. In the second part, it says " O God". It's important to notice how he mentioned God.
This is just to say that we can't overcome this battle by ourselves. We need God to be there with us - to be in us. This also leads to the third part of this verse. In this part, David is asking for a right spirit. A spirit from God, not from the devil. A spirit that know its right from wrong . A spirit that will strive to please God.
This should be our heart's desire.
